I grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine. My mother ran a second-hand store (retro boutique). Since then my love for beautiful things kept growing. I collected different things like wooden buttons, books with beautiful covers, mittens, bow ties. Everything that caught my attention and inspired me - I'm a huge visual addict!
My husband and I moved to Amsterdam a year ago and we're already head over heels in love with the city. We were always passionate about travelling and exploring new places, so when the Amsterdam work opportunity arose, we didn't think twice about making it our new home.
To be inspired every single day is really important for me. It's important for living. What I like about living in Amsterdam is that here inspiration comes from everywhere and everything you look at. The energy of this place is just remarkable. I think Amsterdam provides a lot of opportunities to realize and to achieve your dreams. That makes Amsterdam not just a place to have a good time, but a place for creativity and inspiration to start doing new things.
There are so many favorite spots in town, it’s difficult to pinpoint. But probably, for every Amsterdammer the perfect Saturday starts with some famous apple pie at Winkel cafe. After breakfast we like strolling around the city and visiting the flea and organic markets like Noordermarkt. In summer, from early in the morning until late at night many people hang out either at Vondelpark or Westerpark where you can hear talented musicians or visit a food market. The goat farm in the Amsterdam Bos is also great place to spend a weekend. It’s a fantastic little farm in the middle of the forest, where you can pet the animals, and find fine, local products such as cheese and honey.
For shopping, I can recommend Restored, Anna Nina, Here Here, Rika, The Otherist and the shop Sukha Amsterdam is really my discovery of the year. For lunch, with friends we like cafe George, Blue and Mazzo. For beers, we like de Tuin or Noorderlicht.
Amsterdam is full of the great museums like Stedelijk and Rijksmuseum, books stores (Mendo) and photo art galleries. But honestly, nothing is better than sitting above the canal, sipping on a cup of delicious coffee and soaking up the amazing atmosphere.
So be inspired and welcome to the most magical city in the world!
