Behind Pre-SS17's Key Stories
When our design team sat down to conceive the perfect prelude to the main Spring/Summer '17 'castaway' themed collection, they thought of the island arrival. The very start of a journey. Taking inspiration from the groups of sophisticated 18th century European women travellers depicted in Deborah Turbeville’s nostalgic photography, the collection exudes a wistful, ethereal vibe and provides eclectic, tropical-themed transitional looks. To inspire, here are five stories from Pre-Spring/Summer '17 in more detail:
Palm trees never fail to stir up a desire for travel. An eternal symbol of islands, getaways and carefree days in the sunshine, we employed the intarsia technique to let palm trees take centre stage on cashmere sweaters.
Iconic photographer Helmut Newton's black-and-white palm trees.
Playing on the nostalgic mood, the season’s new conversational sweaters include ‘Lovecats’, ‘Over the Rainbow’, and ‘Isla Bonita’ as an ode to the 80s' Desert Island Discs.
ART DECO STRIPES
For a sleek head-to-toe knit look, we looked back to the Art Deco period for a new take on stripes. The Art Deco Intarsia Sweater and matching wide-leg pants provide a polished, directional approach to knit outfitting.
Taking cues from French style icon Francoise Hardy, our tailoring was finished with considered ruffles. While the shapes remained relaxed and contemporary, a bit of frill offset this, bringing a romantic, nostalgic touch.
In line with the island arrival concept, we used pink and forest green as they are the colours you would likely see on flowers and greenery, juxtaposed with classic navy and grey marl. The overall effect is a subtly jungle-inspired palette that makes for perfectly transitional pieces.
