Chinti and Parker’s Design Director, Amanda Harvey, can normally be seen stylishly sauntering the streets of New York. Several times a year, however, she hops onto the infamous red-eye flight back to London and travels to the Head Office so that she can keep her finger firmly on the Chinti pulse. Whilst we had her in our grasp, we took the opportunity to delve deeper into the life of the perpetual traveller.
Australian born, Amanda has lived in Italy, Belgium, London, New York and is even contemplating her next adventure. We wanted to know what it’s like to live in the Big Apple, what she misses about London life and, most importantly, what Chinti autumn winter essentials she’s going to fill her suitcase with during her stay. Let’s hope she has booked extra baggage allowance..!
They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone... Is there anything that you surprisingly miss about London?
Crazily, I miss all the magazines here. I love just picking up a mag at WH Smith to read on the train or on a flight, whether it’s interiors or fashion, there is such a good selection here. I also miss the English sense of humour, English TV, Galaxy Minstrels and pub roasts. Wow, it sounds like all that I do here is eat, drink and sit in front of the TV! I love how close you are to Europe too...
What is it that draws you back to New York?
I love when it gets really cold there. I layer up with a shirt, chunky knit and scarf, put on my winter coat and wander the streets feeling all warm and cosy. I love how the girls are so polished - all the nail bars are so cheap - and I love that it’s so easy to walk around Manhattan. I walk everywhere. I also love four clear seasons in NY, a super hot summer for all my lightweight Chinti tees and dresses and then a super cold winter for all our warm cashmere and knits. I literally live in Chinti all year long.
What are you taking back in your suitcase?
Lots of Chinti autumn winter 2013! A key piece for me this season is the bright blue Aran Sweater. I lived in my autumn winter 2012 Aran last winter, so I’m very happy for a new, fresh injection of colour for my favourite sweater. I got the bright blue Cable Bobble Hat too! I also bought shirts, shirts and more shirts; the Voile Plain Shirt, the Oversize Tooth Shirt and also the Printed Denim Oversize Shirt. They are great for layering under my cashmere or on their own as trans-seasonal pieces to ease me into winter. Plus, I made sure I had room for the Aztec Stripe Sweater with fluoro yellow pop – I love this!
And what has made it into your hand luggage?
Chinti and Parker meets Patternity’s Square Dot Triangle Scarf is great because I can just wrap it around my shoulders when it gets cold in-flight. Then, when I get back to NY it will be the perfect cashmere accessory to keep me warm and cosy over the winter. The Triangle Intarsia Pants are also so soft and comfortable for a great luxe sportswear look whilst travelling!
