Five Years of Chinti and Parker (and Counting)
As 2014 has come to a close we’re feeling reflective. Last year marked a big birthday for us: a full half a decade of designing a product that we not only believe in and love, but wear (pretty much everyday). So indulge us for a minute as we take a walk down memory lane...
On the 14th November 2009 two cousins, Anna Singh and Rachael Wood, officially launched Chinti and Parker. We say officially because unofficially they had been discussing this for a lot longer, and actually kickstarted the planning two years earlier (making C+P, possibly, seven – but let's not quibble with the details). Fact: Chinti and Parker was originally a childrenswear line. Anna and Rachael wanted to create eco-aware clothing for both mum and her little one.
Things started picking up pace in 2010 as C+P got with the times and went online with the launch of www.chintiandparker.com, and their first retailer, The Cross, was quickly followed by Net-A-Porter and Barneys.
2013 saw a host of celebrities show off their Chinti pieces. Stylish ladies like Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Malia Obama, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Bosworth, Mary Berry, Katie Holmes and Cara Delevingine all have a piece hanging in their walk-in wardrobes.
Last year was one of the most exciting yet. Chinti and Parker worked closely with London department store Liberty to create two beautiful collaborative collections, as well as launching a new menswear line at Matches and an exclusive range for Selfridges and Harrods, as well as working with Goop on a range of bespoke cashmere sweaters. September welcomed C+P's first tailoring collection. The skirt suits have a typically Chinti and Parker boyish twang and places quality and fabric on a pedestal. Further expanding C+P's reach, a line of silk pieces were introduced as a luxe accent to the label's playful knitwear.
