How to dress for work in the autumn

Whether your office dress code errs more on the side of smart or casual, navigating a workwear wardrobe of any kind can be somewhat stressful and uninspiring. Particularly when it comes to navigating between the seasons.

Thankfully, traditional office staples - think pencil skirts and low heels - are experiencing a revival of late, but with a modern twist that should (hopefully) make getting dressed in the morning so much more enjoyable. .

 Kitten heel pumps

Teeter along in stilettos no longer - unless you want to - because your typical office footwear just got a downgrade, in a good way. Opt for low kitten-esque heels or even dust off your wedges to create an elongated silhouette without the foot pain. Wear with a maxi skirt - straight or even slightly A-line - for elegance with an edge twist.

Driving loafers

Loafers have made a much-deserved resurgence in recent years, following a reappearance on runways across designers. Wear with a slim suit and - if you’re feeling particularly bold and Gen Z - paid with a colourful sock to add a touch of personality.

A pencil skirt

Despite officewear’s descent into a more relaxed and casual way of dressing, super smart styling is very much still an option. Enter the pencil skirt. This office staple is best worn with an oversized - yes, not fitted - blazer, pointed pumps and a neat little cardigan. The latter is where you can add a pop of personality - think of a bright hue or a bold pattern.

A cropped jacket

For an edgy twist, forego your typical blazer and layer a cropped leather jacket on top of your ensemble. It’s the perfect layering piece; pairing well with everything from skirts and dresses for biker-chic to wide-legged trousers.

 Huge suede tote

Forego the small and chic handbag this fall season in favour of an oversized workwear tote, in beige or brown suede. Suitable for carrying everything from your Macbook to a cashmere cardigan if the weather seems undecided, a versatile carryall goes with everything from smart suits to denim.
